Queen Camilla was delighted to receive a look-alike Barbie doll by WOW
Here are some photos of Queen Camilla on Tuesday, hosting an event at Buckingham Palace. The event was for International Women’s Day, which was last week but Camilla was on vacation then, so better late than never. Camilla is President of Women of the World, so this was some kind of reception for WOW, to mark the end of the WOW Girls Festival Bus Tour. Camilla was presented with a Barbie doll in her image, dressed up in a miniature version of the outfit Camilla wore to this event. Good staff work, honestly. Camilla was absolutely delighted with her Barbie, and it’s a reminder that both Camilla and Charles are often visibly delighted with the simplest things – a doll, a cake, dogs, balloons. It’s one of their cutest habits.
I’m also including some new photos of Camilla today, Wednesday, as she attended the Cheltenham Festival, which is some kind of big horserace on the calendar. Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall were also there, but obviously King Charles was not. Camilla got to wear a special brooch from the Royal Collection – a diamond horseshoe.
So, Camilla has been back at work every day this week – the Commonwealth service on Monday, the WOW event on Tuesday, and Cheltenham today. She apparently had a restful holiday last week and she’s back and being seen. Unlike you-know-who. Speaking of, it’s absolutely remarkable to watch as Charles and Camilla have completely and utterly removed themselves from Prince William and Kate’s Mother’s Day fiasco. The king and queen are not offering the Waleses any lifelines or help. That being said, it’s also notable that Buckingham Palace courtiers have not been sent out to add fuel to the fire. Charles and Cam are just sitting back and watching everything unfold. Fascinating.

- Queen Camilla was honoured with her very own Barbie doll at a celebratory reception hosted at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday (12March2024). The event marked the finale of the Women of the World Foundation’s WOW Girls Festival Bus Tour following International Women’s Day (8 March). To celebrate Queen Camilla’s role as President of The WOW Foundation and the work of the foundation in empowering girls and women, Barbie created a one-of-a-kind Barbie doll in The Queen’s likeness, complete with a WOW badge. The doll was presented to The Queen at the reception – which was also attended by Dame Helen Mirren, who was herself the recipient of a special Barbie last week. “Since 1959, Barbie’s purpose has been to show girls they have choices,” said Krista Berger, Senior Vice President of Barbie and Global Head of Dolls of Mattel. “In a momentous 65th anniversary year for Barbie, we are proud to be working with incredible global partners, including Women of the World Foundation, to inspire a broader movement that reshapes how society perceives and supports girls’ dreams. Today, we are honoured to celebrate Her Majesty, The Queen, and the WOW Foundation’s commitment to empowering girls.” Before her death in September 2022, the late Queen Elizabeth II was also honoured with a Barbie doll – although she did not accept one personally. The doll is dressed in an ensemble inspired by the current Queen’s wardrobe, with Barbie expressing gratitude to various fashion designers, including Fiona Clare for the cobalt blue dress from Her Majesty’s Coronation portrait, Amanda Wakeley for the black cape, Eliot Zed for the black heels, Launer for the black handbag, The WOW Foundation for the WOW badge, and Van Cleef & Arpels for the bracelet. The WOW Girls Festival is supported by partner organisations, brands and firms, including WOW UK Girls Champion Barbie.
